About the Dentist

DR. FREDERICK MARRA is a 1980 graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He also completed a 1 year General Practice Residency at the University of Pennsylvania from 1980 - 1981 and has undergone many hours of advanced training: MAGD - Master of the Academy of General Dentistry - To achieve status as a Master, AGD members must first be Fellows in the Academy of General Dentistry. They then must earn an additional 600 approved continuing education credits - of which 400 hours are hands-on courses. A Master of the Academy of General Dentistry has taken a total of 1,100 hours of continuing education, with courses in 16 disciplines in dentistry, such as periodontics, orthodontics and implants. Dr. Marra is also a certified instructor of the IAO -International Association of Orthodontics and a Fellow of the International College of Oral Implantology - FICOI.

Dr. Marra has been busy this first quarter of 2008.  In March, Dr. Robert Kerstein, a prosthodontist from Boston, came to the Capital District Continuum for Advanced Dental Education, the local study club that Fred chairs.  Dr. Kerstein lectured in the morning on the utilization of computerized analysis of the occlusion (bite) and did a hands on demonstration in our office in the afternoon for our club members.

In January, Dr. Marra traveled to the National Seattle Study Club Symposium.  This is an annual event sponsored by the national parent organization of our local club.  It focused on comprehensive treatment planning with a focus on the utilization of all different specialties in creating the most favorable outcome for our patients.

 In the end of March, Fred was in Portland, Maine at the New England Master's Study Club.  Dr. Jose Luis Ruiz, from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, presented a three day program which reviewed the latest concepts in aesthetic analysis, techniques and materials. 

On June 6th, 2008 Dr. Marra attended a course on endodontic (root canal therapy )diagnostics and techniques, "Precision Based Endodontics" sponsored by the Seattle Study Club.  The course instructor was Dr. Alex Fleury, an endodontist from Dallas, Texas.
